Legislative Action Last Week:
Summary of legislative action on all bills that the State Bar or sections of the State Bar have taken positions.

HB 4849 (Public Health Code, Prohibit Conducting Of Research Or Training Activities On Cats Or Dogs In A Manner That Causes Pain Or Distress) was reported out of the House Committee on Agriculture as Substitute H-1.
Animal Law Section Position on HB 4849: Support.

HB 4909 (Estates And Protected Individuals Code, Requirements To Be Appointed As Guardian Or Conservator) is expected to be reported out of the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary & Public Safety as Substitute S-3 on November 26th.
Probate & Estate Planning Section Position on HB 4909: Oppose as drafted, but if the revisions proposed in the position report are adopted, the Section will move to a neutral position.

The SBM Board of Commissioners will be considering several public policy items at its November 22 meeting. The public policy agenda can be reviewed online. Members of the State Bar are invited to submit comments to the Board of Commissioners on any of the items on the agenda. All comments received before the meeting will be shared with the Board.
