Lawyers have duties to maintain client data in a secure and confidential manner. This requires in-depth knowledge of how to protect the firm’s digital data, from those who should not have such access to protecting it from being compromised or corrupted. Protection of data should apply to stored data and also data being transferred or shared over the Internet or in any other manner. Staff is often instrumental in working with digital data and should be trained and kept current with preservation and safekeeping practices.
