Cyber Security Risks, Ethical Obligations, & Management for Law Entities

Information is fast becoming law organizations’ greatest asset, yet it is also a source of the greatest risk. Today, attorney-client confidentiality is under attack. The FBI has warned that law entities are vulnerable to cyber attacks that were unheard of just a few years ago. Cyber criminals are increasingly threatening lawyer’s and their clients’ sensitive information in order to gain financial credentials, intellectual property, and inside information on strategic client business initiatives.

At the same time, rules, obligations and regulations have proliferated and regulatory scrutiny has intensified; violations can result in crippling fines and other consequences. As a result, managing cyber risk has become an increasingly urgent priority, exacerbated by the burgeoning amount of data and information at risk. Law entities are now tasked with escalating responsibility for managing both their internal risk and responding to the risk and associated incidents of their client’s.

This forum will discuss the current escalation of targeted areas and techniques; the change in model rules, state statutes and federal regulations; the most current cases and fines associated with violations and; remediation measures and responses available to established firms, sole practitioners and in-house organizations.
