This year's program is influenced by the legal landscape for commercial real estate development in Michigan, which has changed dramatically since the Real Property Law Section last held its winter conference in Las Vegas, Nevada eight years ago. And Las Vegas is arguably the only region in the United States that was impacted more severely than Michigan during the Great Recession of 2008. The program for the 2014 Winter Conference will feature a local real estate professional who will take us through the highs and lows of real estate development in Las Vegas since the Great Recession, share insights into how they have dealt with the challenges they faced and perhaps provide guidance for Michigan practitioners as real estate development begins to rebound in our area. Michigan attorneys will discuss the new reality of real estate development in Michigan, with a particular emphasis on the changes that have taken place since 2006. From legal documentation issues to practical considerations, our panel of legal experts will explain what has changed and what you need to know as you begin to dust off your old forms for the new deal. We will also discuss the many changes in title insurance coverage and underwriting requirements over the last several years, as well as the shifting CMBS legal landscape following recent Michigan case law and legislation.
