FOCUS: Justice For All Reauthorization Act of 2010
On September 27, U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy introduced the Justice for All Reauthorization Act of 2010. The Act would provide for assistance to states in providing the Sixth Amendment right to public defense. It would also provide the Department of Justice with the authority to sue states that do not properly meet the constitutional obligation.

HB 6469 Crimes; other; court to defer prosecution of person less than 18 years convicted of cyberbullying; allow under certain circumstances. Amends 1927 PA 175 (MCL 760.1777.69) by adding sec. 4b to ch. IX.

HB 6493 Courts; funding; mileage reimbursement rate for juror; increase.

SB 1500 Retirement; state employees; early retirement option for certain legislative, judicial, executive branch, and unclassified civil service employees; provide for. Amends 1943 PA 240 (MCL 38.138.69) by adding sec. 19k.

Of General Interest
HB 6464 Local government; other; reporting of annual operating budget; require, and provide penalties for noncompliance. Amends sec. 2d of 1968 PA 2 (MCL 141.422d) & adds sec. 15a.

Proposed Amendments
2008-12 Proposed Amendment of MCR 2.002 to Allow a Court to Deny Indigency Status for Vexatious Filers
This proposed amendment would update MCR 2.002 to clarify that if a party files a frivolous or malicious action, a court may deny the indigent party's ability to proceed in forma pauperis. The rule is similar to the Rules of the Supreme Court of the United States, Rule 39.8.
