FOCUS: Indigent Defense Advisory Commission Presents Its Report to Governor Snyder
On June 22, the Indigent Defense Advisory Commission unanimously approved the final report of recommendations and findings, and presented the report to the governor. The commission was established by Executive Order 2011-12, signed by Governor Rick Snyder on October 13, 2011. The fourteen-member commission was tasked with investigating how to improve legal representation provided to low-income criminal defendants in Michigan. The commission recommends the establishment of a permanent commission to establish and oversee standards for Michigan's indigent defense system.

2011-22—Adoption of Rule 3.800 of the Local Court Rules of Grand Traverse County Probate Court and the 13th Judicial Circuit Court (allows a Court Appointed Special Advocate who works with a child in an abuse/neglect proceeding to receive notice of an adoption hearing that also involves the child)
This local court rule allows a Court Appointed Special Advocate who works with a child as part of an abuse/neglect proceeding to receive notice of an adoption hearing that also involves the child.

Proposed Amendments
2011-14—Proposed Amendment of Rule 2.105 of the Michigan Court Rules ("diligent inquiry" would include an online search if the moving party has reasonable access to the Internet)
The proposed amendment of MCR 2.105 would state that a "diligent inquiry" in support of a request for substituted service must include an online search if the moving party has reasonable access to the Internet.

2011-18—Amendment of Rule 6.302 of the Michigan Court Rules (duty to advise defendant of a lifetime monitoring requirement)
This amendment codifies the holding of the recently released opinion in People v Cole, 491 Mich ___ (2012), in which this Court held that a trial court must advise a defendant who is subject to lifetime electronic monitoring requirement of that part of the sentence during the plea proceeding.
