On July 12, Governor Granholm signed into law legislation to enact the new Michigan Business Tax.

Agenda: SB 435 Reorganize eighty-seventh judicial district into 3 separate districts; SB 505 Provide for exemption for certain state court judges and state court retired judges from concealed weapons no-carry zones; SB 540 Modify requirement for request to leave lands or premises of another.

7/18 House Judiciary
Agenda: HB 4611 Clarify standards for training and qualification for certain former law enforcement officers to carry firearms for the purposes of federal law allowing the carrying of concealed weapons; HB 4612 Include providing false information on application for certificate to carry firearms by a retired law enforcement officer; in sentencing guidelines; SB 386 Expand provisions in criminal sexual conduct statutes relating to teachers and other school employees to include volunteers, employees, and contractual service providers.

Sections and Committees
The Alternative Dispute Resolution Section submitted a public policy report on HB 4433 Property tax; tax tribunal; certification of mediators and mediation process; provide for. Amends secs. 3, 31 & 32 of 1973 PA 186 (MCL 205.703 et seq.) & adds sec. 47.  The Section supports the bill in principle, with significant recommendations for amendments or clarifications.
