FOCUS: Revenue Estimating Conference
On January 11, the January 2008 Consensus Agreement was finalized by the Senate and House Fiscal Agencies and the State Budget Office. The General Fund Budget is expected to be short revenue by $234 million and the School Aid Fund to be short revenue by $135 million from the last Consensus Agreement in May 2007. The projected shortfalls are close to 2007 year-end surplus levels.

HB 5598 Family law; marriage and divorce; placement of pets by court in an annulment, divorce, or separate maintenance action; provide for. Amends 1846 RS 84 (MCL 552.1 - 552.45) by adding sec. 22a.

HB 5605 Law enforcement; other; certain licenses and databases; restrict contents and disclosure. Creates new act.

Of General Interest
SB 1011 Business tax; other; definition of purchases from other firms; revise to include certain services. Amends sec. 113 of 2007 PA 36 (MCL 208.1113).

Rule Amendments
2007-27 – Amendment of Rule 5.125 of the Michigan Court Rules
The amendment of MCR 5.125 conforms the rule to language in MCL 700.5311 by clarifying that parents are interested persons entitled to notice in a petition for the appointment of a guardian of an alleged incapacitated individual, regardless of whether the alleged incapacitated individual has living adult children.
